Memories of summertime: we get ready for a day at the
beach: sandwiches, lots of Perrier, fruits etc. Bob
suddenly asks me:"What are we taking:Plato or
Apollinaire?" I let him decide unable myself to read
anything while lying on the sand, even Apollinaire!
Another summertime ": trip to Nantucket. Christopher
is with us. Our goal is to cure Christopher from
smoking. He agrees, does not touch a cigarette. Bob
congratulates him until he catches Christopher on one
of his numerous escapades to the bar.
Christopher'logic: "It's OK, I stopped smoking no?"
Many memories of Bob crossing Lancaster on his way to
the West and stopping for a night or two in the
azaleas
or after a blizzard with his car deeply buried in the
snow.
Wintertime: Boston, minus 20 deg. Bob and I going
somewhere – by subway in haste; other people are
not
in haste, they move like snails on these icy steps. We
ignore them and soon are launched in a whirlwind
descent
to the tracks, desperately linked to each other down
down down in a kind of mortal embrace. A little crowd
greets us on the tracks amazed to see us standing up
and whole!
The most exciting thing of Wintertime : the New Year
Midnight Concerts at Carnegie Hall; for 3 consecutive
years we enjoyed the exquisite programs followed by an
invigorating walk to the Pickwick!
The FELDENKREIS METHOD. I attend 2 of Bob's classes
and am most impressed. Bob wants to practice it ;he
needs a guinea pig, I am here. I find it quite
relaxing
so much so that Bob is not satisfied: "you are mellow,
no nerve!" But I say :"why should I struggle? I trust
you!"Nice method!!!

Springtime in Little Compton. The place is idyllic.
Its crown glory is a forsythia in full bloom, the most
dazzling yellow one ever saw. I get excited "Let's
take a picture, quick!" we pose in front of that
splendor. Ginny takes us. Result" the film is black
and white. Can I ever forgive him ?
Bob's wedding. Little Compton, the Beach. The most
illustrious memory for 3 of the guests: 1) Lisa who
took the picture 2) foreground, a charming young man
in white carrying a large wedding bouquet, 3) far
enough in the background a solitary creature all
wrapped up in black looking frozen on the spot(ME).
WHY???Romance sans paroles.
Bob's wedding. Bob wants me to read a chapter from
THE PROPHET : On Marriage. I am very impressed and
intimidated, conscious of my French accent. But I work
hard on it, read and reread and ask some friends to
coach me. They all say:Its fine,Simone, just fine"
(the
snakes) Reassured I go to the ceremony and deliver my
lines, without anxiety, rather pleased. After the
ceremony several guests come to me and ask:" What
kind of an accent is that?" or more politely :"I
enjoyed your accent is it French?" Disgusting I think!
Many more images fill my memory but it would take a
book I suppose to write them all.
There it is my sweet sweet Bob, I hope you will
enjoy it.
